Finally. Book out! Its refreshing. *smell the fresh air!*

THe week seems to be forever! Seriously I was thinking and wishing oh please... give me the weekend. My buddy in camp knows every single shit I'm feeling. And same for me too. Its something I respect him alot more than I have for myself when I compare myself to him.

I was really passing through the motion in lectures and all... and I see nothing I have left much for the next 13 more months. I'm trying to test how far I know I can go. We'll see.

Came back from camp after washing stuffs... WHAM! I hit my bed till bout 2pm plus. GF called. lol. I was damn shag.

Meet up with gf and did my new cv specs... oh I love it! ANd walked around while waiting for that Hisyam. This fella ah... planning so rabak and last min. EH WAIT! NOT last min... impromptu. Haha!

Oh yes... been wanna uploading the pics but that fella never send me online. Bugger.

Yeah... thats right. 9 more days to POP. I'll look back not in regret... but glad that I went through it. :)

I've never thought I could do so many pull ups and ran my best record ever. I had a slow start but I finished strong. No matter how low I felt or how impossible people tell me, I know I could still pull off a miracle. And that's a great thanks to my platoon mates.

Yesterday was a mad rush to almost everywhere! Had a great lunch with girlfriend and chat... man... been long since we had one! Haha... laughter in the air and all. How can she laugh at me when I'm just not want to be so serious and then I just HAPPEN to show my slenge side! Argh haha.

Then rush back and met my platoon mates at queensway!

Then rush to Sembawang Shopping Centre for the power 98 10k draw...

Then rush to Hisyam's place to help him out abit...

Fooh! Mad rush weekend! But it was well worth it to me! The great boost on the sat morning is that I've cleared my ippt... so I had SO MUCH energy left to burn out for the day!

On the not so good side, there's still things which always never ends and kept occurring. No matter how, it will still be there. Perhaps, tactical changes needed? Or allow the player to be him or herself to allow them to capitalize on what they do best?

Things are so messed up from my point of view. How I wish I could be more than just me to help and fix things. Like my platoon said as a joke, "Khairul, everything is your fault." I do take it as my fault not trying hard enough.

That's what I had in mind for the upcoming IT show. Damn. How I wish I could. Just a dream for now I guess.

My section mates suggested to me to purchase a customize desktop instead since its during NS days. They are right in a sense. Haiz someone please enlighten me? I need an IT expert here!

The most challenging part is over and now... getting ready to say... POP lo!

Mentally, like what Michael Jordan had said years before... "My attitude is that if you push me towards something that you think is a weakness, then I will turn that perceived weakness into a strength."

And I realized for quite some time, in my heart I was asking Allah to give me all the strength I need to pull through. To be what you want to be, you must give up being what you are. Those prayers even I had a short amount of time... were answered. Thank you God!

No matter how tough things get... time will pass... tough times will pass... just hand on... press on!

Alhamdulillah... I'm giving more opportunities to excel in the things which I'm good at... and given room to capitalize on those I am weak at.

They always wanting their needs to be heard. Always. Their mistakes... flaws... made directly affect others. Why don't they look at the bigger picture? Why must 'we' be affected? Don't they have a sense of thinking on that part. No.

They are ALWAYS right. We are ALWAYS wrong. We are immature... still boys and girls. Dumb about the world.

I will definitely agree with the person who told me,

For that reason, I respect him that much.

I don't expect much from people... but I was really damn really farking disappointed about not receiving the letter.

Simply tell me what? I don't have any significance. All they want is always... about them... them... them. Never about me. I'm not begging.

And NUS and NTU letter already came. Did they bothered? Asked? Farking N.O.

Did they ask what could they do to help? NO.

Only bothered about? Money? Self-satisfaction? What else? Oh and telling me how life is tough for them?

Sometimes I just wanna say JUST FARKING WAKE UP LA! The world is a tough place to live in and you gotta be constantly on your feet man. Well me and gf went out to the new shopping mall in bugis to check it out.

To my surprise... alot of shop still not open yet! Darn.

Anyways, went to Funan to check out some desktop and laptops... yes! I'm purchasing one REAL SOON!!!!

Prayed at Masjid Sultan... and dinner at Al-Majlis.

Food quality wise? PERFECT! But serving time was rather slow... still... food is really... wah!!!

22nd birthday for me was really a time I will always remember.

It all started with a movie after friday prayers with gf at marina square. Then... the voices came...

"Eh Kai... what you doin here???!!"

In a way, the day before... someone accidentally leaked it twice haha!

So I was blind folded in the middle of Marina Square and was dragged to God Knows.

As shown above, I was... tickled all the way while I was walking. FINE! It is my weakness alright! Haha.

And just before I opened my eyes... I accidentally touched... erm. :p

I read today's newpaper about a player who makes his big break into the football scene... counts.

Federico Macheda. A teenage sensation who is only 17. A perfect example. Once, he's struggling to keep his family food on the table with odd jobs here and there while pursuing his footballing career. His dad struggles to often sending him 160km back and fro for training in the town of Italy.

Then, United came calling. As we Muslims always say, "rezki".

Along with friends I have seen, we definitely have our own struggles to pursue our dreams.

Sometimes, obstacles arises not from what we created, but from others... irrespossible human beings.

Despite all that, we just need that one big break. Things will fall into place. InsyaAllah.

You can't perform at your best when you're not given the "requirements" to fulfill your fullest potential. That I can assure you.

Stop all the complains and get back at racing man! When something unexpected happened, you blamed them for cheating.

Why? ANyone seen last weekends F1 race at melbourne, Brawn GP team steam rolled all over other bigger teams like McLaren, Ferarri. Now that is what human spirit is all about. Its just how badly you want it.

They say, oh you gotta adjust to the environment. Yes of course. But at the end of the day, people criticize you for under-performing results? I guess thats like... sometimes, bullshit.

Anyone in this world, be it in the sporting world or normal office hours know very well what it takes for them to be the best. And I SAY... the BEST of oneself.

Lately, I've been re-considering of the try-outs with SAFSA to pursue a career in football. From there, maybe could have a crack in the S League. Perhaps too late? Maybe.

But some fark up people even there to blame me for their problems.

I wanna make it big one day, and that's not in the footballing world. I wanna make it into a university and pursue what I can do best. But all these while to where I am today, I was literally on my own.

When I take the blame of my own failure, some just don't admit that they are too to be blamed. They didn't know they didn't gave me the opportunity to fulfill my own potential. I just have to seeks elsewhere, on my own.

Adidas roadshow was a mad place to be in! But well worth it.

Went on Friday at 5pm with colleagues, all like... wah. Si bei siong eh.. crowded like mad la.

Anyways, I bought myself Adizero running shoe! Damn!!! Been aiming for one for a LONG time... but didn't purchase it earlier as it was like... $212! Round it off with goalkeeper glove and Arab Saudi's club football jersey.

Other friends bought like beckham's boot for quite a good price! Worth it we all know it.

Best part, Hisyam bought 2 shoes for like... 80 bucks?! Nah... take this... and this... and this...! Go one side... okay try it on!

I still can't find the right converter for the videos to put in the E71 say. GF have been busy-ly downloading it ahaha. Sorry! :P

(CBS) For years, reproductive specialists have been helping people become parents, even enabling them to choose the sex of their baby.

One fertility doctor is taking things a step further, offering what some are calling "designer babies," as Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman reports. If you could design your baby's features, would you?

According to L.A.'s Fertility Institute, prospective parents can select eye color, hair color and more.

The technology is called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis or PGD. It was created to screen for disease, then used for gender selection. Now this clinic plans to allow parents to select physical traits.

"I would predict that by next year, we will have determined sex with 100 percent certainty on a baby, and we will have determined eye color with about an 80 percent accuracy rate," said fertility specialist Dr. Jeff Steinberg, director of Fertility Institute.

Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg is a pioneer in in-vitro fertilization.

"I think it's very important that we not bury our head in the sand and pretend these advances are not happening," Dr. Steinberg said. Kirsten and Matt Landon used his clinic to select the sex of their daughter. Choosing other genetic traits intrigues them. "I would have considered trait selection as an option, but not necessarily have gone with it," Matt Landon said.

A recent U.S. survey suggests most people support the notion of building a better baby when it comes to eliminating serious diseases.

But Dr. Steinberg says using technology for cosmetic reasons shouldn't scare people away.

"Of course, once I've got this science, am I not to provide this to my patients? I'm a physician. I want to provide everything science gives me to my patients," Dr. Steinberg said. "But is that a good thing?" Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez asked Dr. Arthur Caplan, Ph.D, director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania.

"Let me quote Dr. Steinberg. He just said he predicts we will have determined sex with 100 percent accuracy and eye color with 80 percent accuracy in the next year. Does that give you pause at all?" Rodriguez asked.

"It does. I think he's wrong. I don't think we're going to get to eye color and hair color and freckles for a couple more years. But he's right in principle. We're headed that way. It is going to be possible to pick traits, not because of diseases or avoiding dysfunction, but because somebody has a taste for a particular child or a preference for a particular child," Dr. Caplan said.

"He says that if it is available, why not offer it to his patients? He says he has the obligation as a doctor to do so. Do you agree with that?" Rodriguez asked.

"I disagree completely. There are really three things to think about. One is, when you move away from diseases, who's to say what's the better trait? Is it better to be red-headed than it is to be brown-haired? Is it better to have freckles or not? Those sorts of things are subjective and in some ways driven by our culture," Caplan said.

"Secondly, you're going to have the rich using these technologies, and that's going to advantage them further. It's not going to be something the poor get to do. Lastly, you've got a problem here, why are doctors in this business at all? He said (Dr. Jeff Steinberg), 'I have to serve my patients,' but is this just a cash business where you'd say, you know, 'I want a child with short arms. I want a kid with athletic ability.

' Okay. Well, we'll do that. Is everything and anything for sale at the fertility clinic?" Dr. Caplan asked. The case of Nadya Suleman, who had octuplets, has raised so many debates like this. The doctor who implanted six embryos is being criticized.

A lot of people say there should be a law prohibiting that, Rodriguez pointed out. "Do you think there should be laws prohibiting this?" she asked.

"Absolutely. And the time to start this discussion is right now. For example, I don't think you should get any of these traits offered to you without some counseling so you can think about, is that important to me? Is this really going to make that much difference?" Caplan said.

This can lead to false expectations on children, he explained. The parents may pick a child to be smart, and he or she doesn't succeed, then they become upset because they invested money and didn't get what they want.

"We need more oversight of this industry, and I think this will turn out to be one of the biggest issues in the next 10, 15 years, the extent to which we design our babies and who's going to be able to call the shots, if you will, on whether the technology gets used to do it," Caplan said.

Anybody could have a bad patch during a period of time but he stills trying to cope it... its like you gotta hang on and overcome the storm before you feel the sun again. What he's trying to do during that time may not favour others and maybe others might see it as normal.

Like Ronaldo doing his flicks and tricks which will piss opponents off and made him a public enemy no.1 target. He don't get it right during a point of time. But once things got off, he's a man steam rolling for goals.

Later today we'll be passing our house key back to HDB. From here, we asked... where to now?

Myself and Mum would be at Aunt's place for quite some time.... my Dad, God knows. I do feel that sense of pity here and there. Every night I'll bet I'll be thinking... where does he gonna sleep?

Despite that... I told him yesterday about my dream... from what I have said in the previous entry. We'd just have no words left to say. Perhaps in his mind... he knows his only son wanna make it big one day. Not as big as Ronald Trump with the Trump Towers and the Casinos, but a humble one easier life. In a way... to break the barrier.

It's gonna be a long and tough road ahead. Going back to tekong and from there work my way up I guess. After that? I just wish to study.

Looking around my friends some have the chance to go overseas. Deep down you'd know how much you envy them. Its their rezki. Sume ade rezki masing2. Even those who could enter local uni.

Yesterday to I've missed the chance to send a friend off with Shanie and Nurul at the airport due to shifting out from my place. How disappointed I was with myself? Very. I ended up texting a long message. But things need to be done at home.

I told my Dad and Mum... its okay. Susah dulu... takpe. Senang kemudian.

Even there's some cock ups regarding HDB about the cashback for our house. My dad was like... complaining. But I only said... tak pe la. Tak baik say gitu. Dah bukan rezki kite... nak buat ape? Just let it go. Org sume ade rezki masing2. Sabar je la.

Its in a mess and I just can't let it bother me for a while.

In the past I thought mine was worse... but today I learnt that others may be more.

I'd realize what I am today... who I am today... is what I chose to be to be carried with me from there till today no matter my good side, or the negative ones.

In all, I'm glad that I'm able to go through all that with other family members and friends around that meant to me alot.

yikes! I actually told a friend of mine that her bf undergoing a real fire fighting from last night till today was a training! lol. She was anxious and worried about no calls and stuff.

Actually it turn out to be a REAL bush fire at Bukit Batok! I read the Straits Times today and I was... oh shit! Quickly I called my friend and ask and tell about the situation. Alhamdulillah he's alright.

Firemen battle bush fires

FIREFIGHTERS have been virtually camped out in a vegetated area along Bukit Batok West Avenue 3, where pockets of fire have been breaking out over the last 11/2 days.

Soon after one blaze is brought under control, another springs up.

The fires have been breaking out atop a hill, which sits on land about the size of five football fields. It is a steep slope, rising on a 70-degree incline to a height of between 50m and 60m.
Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) have been taking 45 minutes to clamber up it using long retractable ladders. The incline aside, they have had to carry tools to cut through the undergrowth.
The first fire broke out at around 4.45pm on Monday in two areas there, each the size of half a basketball court.
Fifty officers brought the blaze under control in half an hour, but they ended up being on standby for the next 17 hours on the chance that embers, fanned by winds, would re-ignite.
The SCDF officers left the area at 9.35am, but barely five hours later, twice the number of firefighters were back battling flames in four fresh areas, each about the size of two basketball courts.
Between Jan 1 and Monday, a record 292 fires had erupted in bushland and forested areas. The spate of fires in Bukit Batok is believed to be one of the longest bush-fire operations in recent years.
Those living nearby have been finding ways to cope with the choking cloud of thick smoke. Many have kept their windows and doors shut to keep out the fine white ash.

Some have had breathing difficulties. Canteen helper Fauzlinda Tahir, 44, who lives on the ground floor of Block 123 in Bukit Batok Central, said: 'My husband has even joked that it is snowing outside. His asthma started acting up on Monday evening too.'

A minor traffic jam built up along Bukit Batok West Avenue 3. Thick water hoses were lying on the streets, some as far as 30m from fire hydrants. Republic Polytechnic student Ganesh Murusamy, 20, said he had not seen bush fires this big in his 12 years living there. 'From my flat on the fourth floor, I saw a tree on fire. The flames were huge.'

For some residents, it is business as usual. They have been jogging and walking their dogs amid the smoky haze. Sales engineer S. S. Chua, 52, was not unduly worried: 'There is nothing for us to be scared about as there have been many firemen in the area trying to put out the fire.'

When I looked back... I thought of how my parents struggle through to raise me up. Their only child. The only son. The only hope.

Pampered childhood.

Then only few days back... I could do lil by just repay them with a surprise treat at Swensens' for dinner and Seoul Garden at lunch. Even my Dad never been to such places before. I just felt... happy. Murah rezki katekan. Alhamdulillah.

And perhaps... the weekend gonna bring them to Flyer and the Singapore River boat ride.

I'm gonna shift house on the 26th... and from then, they gonna live apart. Even though things are slightly better.

For me being their only son, I have always dream of giving them...

comfortable home...

and to drive them around comfortably where ever they want.

Like I've said to my colleague, I'm not an "office boy".

Some just have aspirations to be elsewhere... a place where they could thrive. Anyway, I just gotta be patient a lil bit longer.

But hey! I've passed the functional test! Alhamdullilah. Mr Edmund said my right leg are much more better than last time but I still gotta carry more weight to match up with my left leg JUST a lil bit more. How ironic, my left leg is my non-dominant leg!

Was devasted I couldn't join my secondary school buddies for cycling yesterday. Darn. i just have to pimp my bike a lil more.

That what my ex-platoon mate asked me via sms about 2 hours ago. What was my reply? Simple! If your knee is okay, you got a heart to go SISPEC, even though you've missed a chance for OCS. Why not?! But if you wanna sign on somewhere, expression your intention to extent your ORD so that you'll be eligible for OCS or OCT whatever.

Now I'm just waiting my fate. Oh how nervous I could be.

There's some people who are not against, but not for the idea with what you'd think. But some, does.

Even when I watched Man Utd games on the tele, opinions about things in front of them flew all over. You tell me.

I didn't expect to get the stick from people whom I know them for quite some time with what I perceive of how I wanna shape my future. At least, I'm thinking of it.

Now, NUS/NTU application have just open. For struggling people like me that is. To a certain extent, I regret that I should have done better academically. Even now things like NPCC and Soccer can't reserve a place for me in the life sciences course. How ironic.

Other than that, NS? Oh yes. Not everybody will keep calm when I said, "I requested for my ORD to be extended as I'm expressing interest in signing on for the SCDF if I got in the BOC." They'll will go nuts and said, "What! You're crazy!" The next thing you know you saw laughters.

Its okay, I could take that. Just gave a smile and laugh it off.

I'm racing against time to be fit again. And the functional test is this Friday. God Knows what the outcome gonna be. From there, specilist recommendation. Then the MO back at camp. While waiting to be posted back to BMT.

I just really hope I could be back to enhance batch BMT this April. Even my Dad thinks I'm crazy to return to full scale combat. But hey, shit happens. Why on Earth I could breeze through NAPFA?

I'm talking about my future, even for my parents.

So what ya think? Questioning on how I think, judge and decide on what I'm doing? People's own perception on how things are definitely varies. Its debatable till one actually gets to the end. Either he proves people wrong, or what they say or think proves him wrong.

2008 / 2009

Friends:

As mentioned above, it says it all. When you know you have completely two different worlds with you... you'd realize both has its positional play.

We don't need that many friends... only a few. And a few made big difference.

I wonder previously before it all happened... both are so different. But being different makes me what I am today, other from my own family. Seeing all those funny moments like... Ubin and Kota Tinggi road trip with my poly besties, and those gym-ing and winning eleven gaming with my secondary school ones, I'm so lucky. Both even made my 21st birthday so special! Thank you all! :)

Friends come and go... but only a few that still around... and a "few" means the world to me.

And yes... told ya about the two important friends I've lost? They accepted me back into their lives. How thankful I am as they have played a big part in me.

Family:

At times, they disagree with what I do and what I strongly stood for. Some allowed me to take my own fall when I went out on my own adventure experience. But some don't.

But the best time ever is definitely the gathering sessions with cousins... talk-cock sessions with my Aunties and Uncles... perhaps even with my mum and dad. Well, that don't improve much.

My family have played a big part of me till today and I am very thankful. They took notice about my aim and ambition slightly more seriously now.

And of course... InsyaAllah university next year. But then again... I've no idea. Thinking of getting into SCDF BOC is a desire... signing on... and part time degree.

NPCC:

It is a perfect time to call it a day after Area 9 ATC. That feeling of "moving on" has come nothing but at a better timing now.

Sometimes you feel that "worth it not worth it" thing sets in... and you'd know that you'd only do things if you feel if its worth it. The unit, area and NPAP 07 has a great effect and help in my development and pretty much usual lessons learnt to be applied out there.

And yes... Chai Hee and Shahnaz finally married. Hooray! Both as a big part played in my growing up of 8 years in the corps.

Love Life:

There are three secrets to managing. The first secret is have patience. The second is be patient. And the third most important secret is patience.

No one has been more patient than she herself.

Those who know, knows yeah. I could never been more lucky. But the best part of all? It's all worth it. From the flyer, to the fireworks... self-made candle light dinner, star gazing by the beach etc.

What more can I say other than.... "I Love You"? :)

It is that feeling again when you left school. Oh how I missed school life!

You'll know when you have it.First time ever donning a graduation outfit... nice!

When I looked back... I know I should have done better. But it makes people like me learn a hard lesson of growing up.

Sports:

I was on the verge of taking on the world but I fell flat back on Earth.

Nothing new to getting back on the feet. But this time, it's harder. Never been easier.

Toughest Moment:

When the heart and mind says, "Its no problem" but the body says... "Houston, there is a problem".

Sitting out and watch the rest get their own glory is not what you've come for thus far.

Learning Point:

It is a mix of friends... family and own experience. I guess all is like... invaluable.

Turning Point:

The new year I guess. A tough period but... rejoice.

When I passed NAPFA and got in the enhanced batch in BMT

Low Point:

Dropping out. And also my MP3 player! ARGH! Its not the mp3.. but its a gift from best friends.

YES YES YES!!! I am back definitely. New year kicked off with a bang! Well... don't talk about my NS days... its like a horror, for now.

And yes! Our trip! First ever trip!

Fun filled with risks and considerations but it was well worth it. :)

So technically I got up about 0530 hrs to do my prayers before departing to meet my mum at her work place before I go.

Fetch people here and there.. the food was... OMG!

As seen from the couple behind... they simple enjoying their time hahah!

I was fully amazed how Malaysian drivers are like over there... and definitely it was a well worth driving experience! Despite still being on a P-Plate hahaha.

So we did a stop over at the nearest petrol kiosk to buy some drinks and pee break before moving on. And Ironically we reached earlier than expected! Alhamdulillah.

Unloading our stuffs and we got problems bringing in our food. :p So we did I little bit of "re-shuffling".

The water I can tell you is.. damn cold la. Most of us got flu the next day. But it was really fun! There's some fishes here and there... not so big though.

And here's our food! Told ya! Tourist and malaysians there were shocked we're like... picnic-king but hey... good job everyone for doing their part in the food! Credit much to Hafizah for the lauk-pauk!

If it was your 1st time receiving a hand made card... then I'm honoured to be that 1st person to do it for you. :)

So how many more things I could be "the FIRST person" for everything in your life?

Well... I'll just do what I could... in my best abilities. If something is well worth going for... even at the end of the day you may not get it... the feeling of attempting at all cost give you the success which you could not buy.

So I am here... trying to do little and simple things... which may be small to me, but others may be big and significant.

And on her 20th, a nice walk cum hiking at Fort Canning Park. It's not about the place that have much effect... but it is the person you're with I guess.

Surprises is nothing new to me in terms of "doing". Maybe that's something which I could honestly say I am good at. Others? Not much I think. But still... I'll do my very best.

And yes... your favourite perfume for you! New packaging lagi say!

Actually I was contemplating some other gifts but after much consideration on the pros and cons... that's the best and the right one.

For about a year I have known Nurul... and for about close to 10mths being with her, today... I have seen a much more greater side of gf. A side which the 20 yr old showing her maturity... the girl to a lady... a woman. It was just a issue being discussed on the phone before bedtime but her words... perceptions... "AH" it captures me.

What more? In the bus from suntec, while listening to all the nasyids' songs... it recalled how she caught my attention about more than 1 year ago. It was... wow... I just could not believe what I am seeing.

As mentioned above, my spirit is damn high now that I feel I am ready to go back to BMT as a Combat Fit soldier once again! Well, honestly... I don't mind getting posted back to my parent company, Cougar... or even Ninja for the re-course BMT. Fellow recruits will know why. :)

Only when I got my knee problem sorted out InsyaAllah.

The challenge is there and things are still up for grabs. Maybe OCS/SISPEC could be more out of my hands no matter how hard I try... but maybe there's better things than that! Of course la!

I realize that SMU applicantion is open even now say! What only! Tried checking out NTU... it is still at the 2008 phase haha! Whatever!

Because the bigger picture is not BMT... nor NS... well, it is the future here!

Of course NS is where you'll see yourself grow more into a man and also fitness wise... InsyaAllah in NTU is where the desired destination lies! And NTU silat impressed me say during the last IVP at RP.... and seeing all my cousins getting into it making me going into a new transaction!

Career? If I could keep my PES status and get through NS injury free... so here's the supposed line up for career:

1. Life Sciences Industry
2. Teaching
3. Singapore Police Force

Chey dey bah! Macam faham! But tgk la keadaan... economi acamane... ye!

When a person is left to face a very difficult time to go through, many times we don't think of what others might going / gone through.

Sometimes, things you risked could bring about a more severe consequences which will actually destroy whatever you have left. With that, you actually have fears of what the past have haunt you dearly.

In detail, I took a risk to go through BMT with a company that has a reputation of being the most fittest throughout Tekong... together with Ninja Coy.

SOC, IPPT, Route Marches, Field Camp etc... that's my fight and my game. Something which I desire to be in to be fit. But of course, they say shit happens. Maybe my judgement was way off.

They say, "Stronger... Better... Faster... COUGAR!" I was starting off well but it happens. Pride is something you have which is difficult to let it go after disaster happened.

Definitely, OCS... SISPEC... is over. But my life ain't. InsyaAllah I will pull through the re-course few months down the line or even just before ORD-ing.

Someone's character symbolizes of myself about 2 years ago. Whom have great persistency self-belief that he could pull through despite all odds. Well, I could do nothing much to that great friend of mine but just to envy and watch he prevails hopefully.

Time tells me to be more practical and think it in the long run. "Do what is right, not convenient." Said by him. Sometimes I feel that the whole idea of relating here and there is so irrelevant because... environment all... is different.

At times people feel desperate. So desperate that they do not want things to get any worse than it currently is... so they rather give up now for the future. Future? Yet another uncertainty.

At a point of time when a person decides, many considerations made. Maybe decision made by impulse. I don't know. How about the US Presidency Election have choson Obama to lead? What are their thoughts of considerations?

Fellow friends... forgive me for being such an a**. Or they say an immature ba*****. At 21, I may have applied what I have learnt... but in many eyes its wrong. In some, its right. So what do I do?

Currently, I have made my choice. And going with the flow... taking things in my stride. InsyaAllah things will turn for better.

As mentioned, I'm back here.

Thank you to gf for updating my blog... very detailed w/o a question say! But hey, you shld get a distinction in report writing for the depth of the events you wrote! Oh my... pls don't pinch me... I had enough just now... esp about the "gf bakar satay dgn the pool cue stick" at the pool table. *oops* :p

Okay! Ironically, I wanna chill out with Nurul at Starbucks marina square to have you know, couple talks kind of thing... and she lashed out! "ade plug... bleh main game" SUPER LOL!

But nth serious really. Tried the java chip... recommended by her. Its alright and nice... and yes, I do have to learn drinking it fast. Well, maybe things which I enjoy for a long period of time... I just enjoy it heavenly say... of course la... siape nak habiskan *slurp* cepat2?

in a space of like... 6 months... I lost 2 friends which the beginning was so nice and dear but the end just have to ended up with pieces being torn apart.

these things happened and times made you more like... self-reflection on the things you did. I did that is. The last thing I prayed for is for them to forgive me and rekindle the friendship back again.

Why last thing? Cos it is like... matters are so severe... so bad that its like... seeing a beautiful scented paper being burnt into ashes. By your own doing. My own doing. yes right! you cant reverse it of cos. not like... water evaporate turned to water vapour then back to water again. Gosh here's science again. No amount of sorrys... sincere apologies could overwhelm the damage done. The glass shattered and left cracking lines despite being tape it up.

But He helped me... bring these 2 wonderful people back into my life again... to cherish it. maybe the past has it reason... mistakes have its reasons... for us to be where we are now. We may don't understand (as yes... me being so stupid to understand things) it now... but somewhere down the road we will maybe.

Just like now, I'm already out of action from bmt and awaiting to be referred back to my specialist at cgh. I can tell you that I am desperate not to down PES to C. And I can tell you how disappointed I am to have a similar knee problem again after 14 mths of recovery period.

Be it friendship, love, family or my knee... "You grow up the day you have your first real laugh -- at yourself." Seriously... that's how you'll feel.

At the beginning... all emo... immature... impulsiveness got the better of you... of course definitely at a younger age. As you grow... slowly but slowly... you'll grow!

So for now? I'll just await on the knee scan and look what I could do for the next 1 yr 10 mths of my time in national service. of cos... I wanna get better. more patience and maturity needed this time round.

I may not understand now why things happen... but im sure i'll do... somewhere down the road. be it 2 days... 2 wks... 2 mths... or 2 yrs... maybe longer.

It's me Nurul, updating on behalf of Kai (because he asked to).

So anyway,
Not much of a Hari Raya for him because of NS.
Only 1 and a half week of Raya,
And 2 days to end the Raya season with friends and family.
Booked in on the 9th of October, and out on 24th October 2008, 9pm.
Friday was spent well resting at home.
Saturday was a day out with girlfriend.
Went to Chevron, just to find a round neck brown T-shirt for NS.
But sadly, size M was out of stock.
Thought of going bowling or pool, but girlfriend wants to eat.
So went to IMM.
Oh by the way Chevron is near IMM.
We had MacDonalds and then just walk around searching for a mid-size bag.
Found a few nice ones but decided to not buy yet and continue surveying.
Then at 7 we went to Jurong Entertainment Centre, with the thought of playing pool.
But the Billard place has close down.
The arcade there was a different one from Tampines.
Requiring another card.
So we decided to just go back to Tampines Mall and play the arcade there.
We played basketball, soccer and some 'throw-those-balls-into-the-hippo's-mouth' game.
Spend the late evening with mum and dad for dinner after sending girlfriend home.

Sunday morning, as usual to religious class.
Then meet girlfriend and Shanie at City Hall to Chua Chu Kang, Hisyam's place.
We reached at around 1+pm.
Played a prank on Hisyam, saying that Shanie broke her heels, fell down and couldn't get up.
So he actually brought the whole troops down, brother, mum and aunt.
To Shanie's rescue.
But then we were already under the block, laughing.
And had to apologise to the mum and aunt.
Later, to laugh over the matter.
Sat down for a while, Hisyam's mum prepared lunch.
With lotsa chicken wings and hotdogs.
We ate till we could eat no more.
Then sat around and talk.
As usual, about army stuffs, friends, injuries and more.
And Hisyam and Khai have this same habbit of rubbing their 'botak' head
We went off when Hisyam's dad is leaving for Yishun.
Sent us to Khatib and we took 969 back.

Then next stop Shanie's house.
We just sat, lepak around, disturb each other and watch Harold and Kumar.
The only fear was her parents to come to the living room and see what we're watching.
Then everyone started opening the doors to peep outside.
We thought we sat there long enough, so decided to move to the coffeeshop nearby.
First was Mr Teh Tarik, then Mr Prata.
So we sat there for another about an hour before splitting because girlfriend has to go home.
Hisyam, Shanie and Fadhil went to Tampines Mall.
Khai joined later, only to play arcade, Daytona.
And guess what?
Shanie WON!
Then Khai moved to Lakeside, for his aunt's open house.
Went home close to 12.

The next day, packed the stuffs to go back camp in the morning.
Meet girlfriend at 11.
Went to Tampines Mall, to look for bag again.
Then headed to arcade to play sky hockey.
But there was so many people queing up.
So we got our turn.
Thought of catching a movie, but time doesn't permit.
So we went off to safra.
Thinking to play pool or bowling.
But after reaching there, we want to know what's at every corner of safra.
End up with not enough time as well.
So we just sit down and have a heart to heart talk, and went off at 2.30.
Khai reached home at 3+, to do some last minute packing.
Then went off at 4.45 to Pasir Ris for his camp.
Got on to the boat at 6pm, and had the whole night to himself, to rest.

The next morning (Tuesday), he has to downgrade pes.
Because of his knee injury.
And now he's only doing admin work.
So that's the update till now.

My One Cent Worth

I'm entering NS in a few hours... I say a few hours... and as always He's testing me like He's testing other people out there.

Saya nak macam learn the true meaning of two important principles in Islam that can be seen to be building up gradually... : sabar or patience and ikhlas or sincerity despite all odds.

Like a very meaningful line from the script says, "Ikhlas dan sabar, itulah Islam". Tapi cakap senang kan?

In ways life which He has brought upon me, touches on the aspects of marriage and jodoh or fate as to who one will be married to as chosen by God Himself. Jodoh itu rahsia Tuhan, it says.

I didn't realize He teaches not only patience but also peserverance, empathy and love towards one another. Such abstract but deep and meaningful concepts that I have grasped before, which I feel I can relate to real life.

Me, like anybody, found things simply beautiful and inspiring, and for a Muslim like me who tend to stray away from the ideals of a true blue Muslim at times, there's small but meaningful things which make me want to make an effort to be an all-rounded Muslim.

And yes, I did this post as... I could not sleep.

Well, Raya's outing is done for this year. I told Nurul on the phone yesterday that definitely I prefer Ramadhan than Raya... reason? The big2 gathering for iftar with family and friends, ibadah be it fasting, terawih etc... and just basically the holy month feeling.

I would always thought Raya's outing is enjoyable especially it is my first time being a full time driver together with my uncles and we drove 3 cars all together, yes I would admit... it is enjoyable... but Ramadhan, nothing beats that.

Today I left only with one house... that is my Dad's real sister. My real aunt la katekan.

Pening eh... okay. My mum and dad both have real family and also foster family... but we're closer with our foster family la cuz we grown up with them ape. Alhamdullilah.

You know what? How I wish it was one month ago... where puasa just started. InsyaAllah Ramadhan will come very soon next year.

Mix feelings in all I must say. But time flies so fast this time... Kiamat Sudah Dekat agaknye.

Well, first day not much as I stayed at my grandmother's place... practically all stayed over... every year has been that way.

At night did some jln2... today... and more on Sat and Sun. Tak sabar nak pergi kubur arwah2. Rindu sgt.

Tonight gotta sleep early... tomorrow after subuh kluar haha. PAGI NYE!

Raihan is the group of nasyid I always liked to hear ever since I was so young! Gosh I do miss those times when my class of religious classes performed Iman Mutiara and we came out in the Berita Harian! But I was... erm... primary school student I guess. Been trying to find that article that my mum kept it.

HAMILTON LOST!!! PHEEWEET! Alonso brought back home the 1st place SG Grand Prix! After solat terawih still got a chance to watch the highlights alhamdulillah. Full of action though!

After subuh tomorrow need to go to the market with my aunt yet again... I guess the final trip there... hopefully parking won't be much of a problem. I think.

Baru nak tido... aisay! So drove to Geylang with my mum and wham! SO MANY CARS SO EARLY MORNING?!

In the end my mum got off and buy the daun ketupat while I just wait for a parking lot. Trust me... people trying to squeeze here and there.

Ramadhan is leaving and I thought... I wish I have that feeling from last year's Ramadhan... I wish I could have done better this year... but I do admit last year's Ramadhan feeling is nothing could be compared to anything! MasyaAllah... is so great!

As I grew up older... I don't really look forward to Raya that much... maybe after learning more and more things... and after the BIG difference feeling when the devils being tied down during this holy month, you know its a feeling which as a Hamba Allah you'd like to remain as that or even better! But we humans... are constantly being tested and that's where we need to fight the devils around us... and INSIDE ourselves. InsyaAllah.

Well, need some sleep... been driving alot the last few days and waking up early to drive.

I haven't do my NS specs... pay my Mum's and my zakat... what else... just to name a few. :)

[Well today I came across a survey today, it asked me, " Your hair is dyed?" I replied, " It will be once I retire from Uniformed Group!" Then I ask myself... when will that be? At the moment I'm very happy serving my unit... Area 9 and the entire NPCC... but there will be a day when I'll call it a day... why? Cause perhaps I can't stay in it forever? Wanna do different things maybe? Oh well... who knows... Haha but I'm content with what I'm at now... More than happy!]

That's what I posted on Tuesday, July 19, 2005. Haha... just happened to peep back to the past a while. And now? Retired! Lol! When I drove to back to my secondary school in the morning to collect back my stuffs which I have left in the NPCC room... Mark came along and have a casual chat about some stuffs. Can't believe I did say... "Nahz..." ironically haha! Oh well, zaman gemilang katekan. Orang pon grow up say! :p

But actually just now was my first time ever driving in heavy rain after countless of times! And experience to be remembered? I guess.

Need to rush to Tampines untuk beli2 benda for buka with Nenek ku tersayang! :)

THAT'S the expression of my gf when she saw me outside RP while she was walking to class on last Monday. ;p Actually if I could... I wanna take her actual facial expression by camera!!!!

She didn't realize I secretly sneaked out of the house... wanna surprise her to accompany her the whole day in school HAHAHAHA! Well, NS coming soon so... lepaskan rindu sebelum lock up? YE LA!

Anyway! It was such a great race! The intensity level rose tremendously towards the end with people starring at us that we're actually taking the game quite seriously! But in the end... it was an a great battle. :)

After days ending my work at IMH... I was basically slacking all the while! Even updating blog I was think... ah... I wanna have some "break" for a while... yes indeed! Nowadays? Sahur... pray... then go back to sleep! Sleep till... like 1pm... ;p but it really depends... if my Dad is too sleepy to drive his passengers, then I'll drive!

Oh yes, I just realize what I would like to say:

Sometimes... things happen. You wish that you have extraordinary powers to have done things better because you're powerless to do a "change" with your own abilities. But it doesn't mean your a bad person or weak.

Sometimes... things happen... for a reason. It is only the secret of Allah I guess. If it's meant to be yours... it will definitely be... anytime anywhere. But if it's not meant, then it is not meant my friend.

You see, in my life I recognize 2 of the most biggest people that means to me alot. Both similarly left behind the friendship that I had with them... but 1 returned. Actually I prayed both could but not always you could get what you want.

And this person actually impromptu said to me on the night of Malam Nisfu Syaaban...

"tanks kau. i miss e chance. klau nk ikutkan, iz alrdy 2 yrs tat we became frens. tank u 4 bein a gd fren of mine."

Then... I just looked above and said... "Oh thank you." With that speechless and humbled reaction.

I did so little and did bad things but yet this person actually said that. Till which and what ever day will pass... I know I will never forget that... never will.

So you see... not everything could have a fairy tale ending. Sometimes... it just have to end that way... even though no matter how hard we try to salvage things. There's things which we will never understand. But... in time we might... maybe we not. But that is not important.

Be blessed that it once happened in your life. Be it a simple outing or anything which you and your friend, family or anybody have done. All now you could do is just... pray and hope. Hope maybe painful but what else could you do?

One thing I do know... I don't know the future... like anybody else. But I do know is that... InsyaAllah... I wanna be with my dear more than a bf in the future. :) Cuz she's 1 of my most important person in my life. And what ever feelings I have inside it is there and only for me and her to know. HEHE! Stingy am I?

Istikhaarah prayer

I like to know more on prayers, Istikhaarah,What to receite,and the doa'a,how maany rakaats and what benefit can I can get.Hanafi Shafee,Hanabali are the prayers same way.
Praise be to Allaah.

Istikhaarah prayer is a Sunnah which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prescribed for anyone who wants to do an action but is hesitant about it. Discussion of Istikhaarah prayer covers eight points:

1- Definition
2- Ruling
3- The wisdom behind prescribing it
4- Reasons for it
5- When Istikhaarah should be started
6- Consulting people before praying istikhaarah
7- What should be recited in istikhaarah
8- When should the du’aa’ be recited?

1 – Definition
Istikhaarah in Arabic means seeking guidance to make a decision concerning something. It is said in Arabic Istakhir Allaaha yakhir laka (Seek guidance from Allaah and He will guide you (to the right decision)). In sharee’ah terminology, Istikhaarah means seeking guidance (to the right decision), i.e., seeking guidance as to what Allaah knows is the best and most appropriate choice, by means of prayer or the du’aa’ narrated concerning Istikhaarah.

2 – Ruling
The scholars are unanimously agreed that Istikhaarah is Sunnah. The evidence that it is prescribed is the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said:

“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to teach his companions to make istikhaarah in all matters, just as he used to teach them soorahs from the Qur’aan. He said: ‘If any one of you is deliberating about a decision he has to make, then let him pray two rak’ahs of non-obligatory prayer, then say: Allaahumma inni astakheeruka bi ‘ilmika wa astaqdiruka bi qudratika wa as’aluka min fadlika, fa innaka taqdiru wa laa aqdir, wa ta’lamu wa laa a’lam, wa anta ‘allaam al-ghuyoob. Allaahumma fa in kunta ta’lamu haadha’l-amra (then the matter should be mentioned by name) khayran li fi ‘aajil amri wa aajilihi (or: fi deeni wa ma’aashi wa ‘aaqibati amri) faqdurhu li wa yassirhu li thumma baarik li fihi. Allaahumma wa in kunta ta’lamu annahu sharrun li fi deeni wa ma’aashi wa ‘aaqibati amri (or: fi ‘aajili amri wa aajilihi) fasrifni ‘anhu [wasrafhu ‘anni] waqdur li al-khayr haythu kaana thumma radini bihi (O Allaah, I seek Your guidance [in making a choice] by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power, I have none. And You know, I know not. You are the Knower of hidden things. O Allaah, if in Your knowledge, this matter (then it should be mentioned by name) is good for me both in this world and in the Hereafter (or: in my religion, my livelihood and my affairs), then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if in Your knowledge it is bad for me and for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs (or: for me both in this world and the next), then turn me away from it, [and turn it away from me], and ordain for me the good wherever it may be and make me pleased with it).”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari in several places in his Saheeh (1166).

3 – The wisdom behind prescribing it:
The reason why Istikhaarah is prescribed is that it is submission to the command of Allaah and a practical demonstration that one has no power and no strength of one’s own. It means turning to Allaah and seeking to combine the goodness of this world and of the Hereafter. In order to achieve that, one has to knock at the door of the King, Allaah, may He be glorified, and there is nothing more beneficial in this regard than salaah (prayer) and du’aa’ (supplication), because they involve venerating Allaah, praising Him and expressing one’s need for Him. Then after praying istikhaarah one should do that which one feels is best.

4 – Reasons for it:
In what circumstances should one pray istikhaarah? The four madhhabs are agreed that istikhaarah is prescribed in cases where a person does not know the right decision to make. In matters where it is known whether a thing is good or bad, such as acts of worship, doing good deeds, sins or evil actions, there is no need to pray istikhaarah in these cases. But if a person wants to find out the right time to do something, such as whether to do Hajj this year, because there is the possibility of encountering an enemy or some tribulation, or whether to go with a certain person or not, then he may pray istikhaarah with regard to such decisions. But there is no room for Istikhaarah when it comes to things that are obligatory, haraam or makrooh. Rather Istikhaarah has to do with things that are recommended or permissible. Istikhaarah is not ordinarily required with regard to things that are recommended, rather it should be done in cases where there is a conflict, i.e., when a person has a choice of two things and must decide which one to start with or which one not to do. With regard to permissible things, he may pray Istikhaarah as a regular matter.

5 – When should he start praying Istikhaarah?
The person who wants to pray Istikhaarah should have an open mind, and not have decided on a specific course of action. The phrase “If any one of you is deliberating” indicates that Istikhaarah should be prayed when one starts to think of the matter, when through the blessing of prayer and du’aa’ what is good will become clear to him, in contrast to when the idea has taken root and his resolve to do it is firm, in which case his inclination will sway him, and there is the fear that wisdom may not prevail because he is inclined to do that which he has already decided to do. It may be that which is meant by deliberation here is resolve, because a passing thought does not matter. And a person should not pray istikhaarah except when he has decided to do something but does not have a strong inclination towards it. Otherwise, if a person were to pray Istikhaarah for every thought that crosses his mind, he would never stop and he would waste all his time doing that.

6 – Consulting others before praying istikhaarah
Al-Nawawi said: It is mustahabb, before praying istikhaarah, to consult someone whom you knows is sincere, caring and has experience, and who is trustworthy with regard to his religious commitment and knowledge. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“and consult them in the affairs”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:159]

7 – What is to be recited in Salaat al-Istikhaarah
There are three opinions as to what should be recited in Salaat al-Istikhaarah:

(a) The Hanafis, Maalikis and Shaafa’is said that it is mustahabb, after reciting al-Faatihah, to recite Qul yaa ayyuha’l-kaafiroon in the first rak’ah and Qul huwa Allaahu ahad in the second. Al-Nawawi said, explaining the reason for that: It is appropriate to recite these in prayer, to show sincerity and expressing your leaving your affairs to Allaah. They said that it is also permissible to add other verses from Qur’aan where the context refers to the idea of making a choice or decision.

(b) Some of the Salaf said that in praying istikhaarah it is good to add, after reciting al-Faatihah, the following verses in the first rak’ah:
“And your Lord creates whatsoever He wills and chooses, no choice have they (in any matter). Glorified is Allaah, and exalted above all that they associate (as partners with Him).
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal, and what they reveal.
And He is Allaah; Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), all praises and thanks be to Him (both) in the first (i.e. in this world) and in the last (i.e. in the Hereafter). And for Him is the Decision, and to Him shall you (all) be returned”
[al-Qasas 28:68 – interpretation of the meaning]

And the following verse in the second rak’ah:

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error”
[al-Ahzaab 33:36 – interpretation of the meaning]

(c) The Hanbalis and some of the fuqaha’ did not say that any particular verses are to be recited when praying Istikhaarah.

8 – When one should pray Istikhaarah
The Hanafis, Maalikis, Shaafa’is and Hanbalis stated that the du’aa’ should be recited immediately after the prayer. This is in accordance with what was stated in the hadeeth narrated from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). See al-Mawsoo’ah al-Fiqhiyyah, part 3, p. 241.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in al-Fataawa al-Kubra: Part 2, p. 265 Question concerning Du’aa’ al-Istikhaarah: should this du’aa’ be recited during salaah (prayer) or after saying the salaam? The answer is that it is permissible to recite the du’aa’ of istikhaarah before or after the salaam, whether you are praying salaat al-istikhaarah or another prayer. Reciting du’aa’ before the salaam is preferable, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite a lot of du’aa’ before the salaam, and the worshipper before saying the salaam still in a state of prayer, so it is better to recite the du’aa’ then.

Marriage is one of the things that Allaah has decreed. The person whom you will marry is known to Allaah: He knows who he is, when he was born, where and when he will die, how he will be towards you, and other details. All of that is known to Allaah and He has written it in al-Lawh al-Mahfooz (the Book of Decrees), and it will inevitably come to pass as Allaah has decreed.

If Allaah has decreed that you will marry one person, but you choose someone else, then no matter how long it takes, you will marry that person. But your marriage to someone else is also decreed, because there is nothing that is not decreed by Allaah. It may be decreed for a woman to marry So and so the son of So and so, and he comes to propose marriage but she refuses him, and marries someone else, then he (the second man) dies or divorces her, then she accepts the first one. All of that is decreed, and it is decreed for her to marry So and so the son of So and so after initially refusing him and after some experience or trials etc.

It may be decreed for a woman that a righteous man will propose marriage to her, but she will refuse him and he will never come back to her, and she will marry and live with someone else who is more or less righteous, according what Allaah has decreed.

Because man does not know what is decreed for him, what he must do is to adhere to sharee’ah and abide by its commands and prohibitions, and to seek the help of Allaah and pray to Him for guidance (istikhaarah) concerning all his affairs, whilst implementing the means, one of the most important of which is consulting sincere people who have relevant experience.

If a righteous man proposes marriage to a woman, she should pray to Allaah for guidance (istikhaarah) and agree to marry him. If things then go smoothly, this is an indication that what is good for her is to marry him.

In conclusion, man should study the sharee’ah of Allaah and follow the commands of Allaah even if he feels reluctant, and avoid what Allaah has forbidden even if he is attached to it.

I came across it... and I was thinking about it for the past 24 hrs... 24 hrs only? Trust me... it seems like a VERY VERY LONG time.

Okay... officially on the 19th Sept is my last day of work... and hence I have a mix feeling about it. But of course in reality I know I have to leave work. For the better... I get a full recovery period for about 3 weeks before National Service while spending time more with family, friends and loved ones.

The next few days? Buka-ing apptments with Area 9, my other close ex-NPCC counterparts... and also with Nurul syg... fooh! Marathon ke?

And guess what?! COE has gone down! But not to the record of $5000 plus...

But 2nd hand car comes to mind for now... for the 1st official car. ;p

Why? Its "business".

I've gone missing! Perhaps... work is tiring?! Oh well... that didn't really stop me from having fun!

OKay... City Hall was jam packed! It is worse than a normal pasar malam. We're walking that slow... trying to squeeze here and there...

Prayed our Maghrib at Marina Square musollah and I met a friend of mine from NUS! Actually he have just graduated.

SBS Transit, SMRT submit applications for fare adjustments

SINGAPORE : The wheels are in motion for another round of public transport fare hikes. Singapore’s two public transport operators, SBS Transit and SMRT, have submitted their applications to the Public Transport Council (PTC) for fare adjustments.

However, both companies would not give specifics as to the quantum requested.

SBS Transit and SMRT attributed the need for a fare increase to soaring energy and fuel prices.
SMRT said even a maximum fare adjustment of 3 per cent will not fully mitigate the inflationary pressures.

The company said its energy costs rose by 18 per cent to nearly S$90 million due mainly to higher electricity and diesel prices.

Diesel cost for buses amounted to more than S$42 million, 17 per cent higher than the last financial year.

SBS Transit said it is proposing to keep concession, children and students fares unchanged.

While the new fare formula allows for the maximum adjustment to be capped at 3 per cent, the PTC has said that any increase this year is likely to be less than the 1.8 per cent hike imposed last year.

Bus fares went up by 1 to 2 cents last October, while train fares remained unchanged, because the PTC deemed that SMRT had healthy profits last year.

The PTC will decide on the adjustment in September, and the new fares will take effect in October.

Separately, the Competition Commission of Singapore has rejected the Singapore School Transport Association’s application to impose a fuel surcharge and the need for a collective price recommendation.

It said guidelines restrict independent pricing decisions, which is against free competition. However, the commission has no objections to fare increases, so long as it is decided on individually by bus operators.

It added that it is monitoring the situation and will launch an investigation if it has reasons to suspect that prices are being coordinated among the school bus operators. — CNA/ms

You know, signing on in the Singapore Police Force is just one of the LAST (and this includes economical breakdown aka recession = DRASTIC MEASURES) resort in getting a career. Oh well, I guess... keeping my options open? Definitely.

I was surfing through regarding overseas careers in science... and well, I found this!

What work as a forensic scientist involves:

Recording findings and collecting trace evidence from scenes of crime or accident.
Analysing samples such as hair, body fluids, glass, paint and drugs in the laboratory.
Applying various techniques as appropriate; e.g. DNA profiling (And yes... VENTRICE!) , mass spectrometry (HAHA had fun during proteomics class), chromatography.
Presenting written and verbal evidence in court which may be cross-examined.

You need a strong stomach, as some of the scenes of crime can be gruesome.
Confidence is also required as reporting officers have to present evidence in court and be cross-examined by barristers. This makes up a quarter of the work.

It helps if applicants have business skills as well as being technically capable.

Crimes may happen at any time, so evening and weekend call outs happen regularly.

There are 3 main areas:

Chemistry (the ONLY subject I HATE so much :s) - mainly crimes against property. This includes the analysis of contact traces e.g. glass and paint, also fire investigation and serial number restoration. However, approximately 80% of cases involve drugs analyses.

Biology - mainly crimes against the person. Violent crime makes up most of the case types encountered and the majority of examinations involve blood and other body fluids. Both traditional serological and DNA testing is used. Also deals with the analysis of hairs and fibres. DNA work is increasing because of the new nation-wide DNA database. Crimes from many years ago are now being re-examined because of new DNA evidence.

Drugs and Toxicology - drink and drug driving cases, and the criminal and non-criminal investigation of deaths due to overdoses, poisons and drugs.

Most entrants begin as assistant scientists, moving on to become a forensic scientist and then a reporting officer, who has to go to court as an expert witness. Salaries start at about £14,000 for forensic science assistants (JUST FOR AN ASSISTANT??!!) and £15,000 for reporting officers. But senior reporting officers earn around £40,000.

Singaporeans science student might think... its bizarre! UK student might think... what the hell your talking about mate?!

Tips for getting jobs?

Get work experience e.g. in a hospital laboratory or as a school laboratory technician which will allow you to give evidence for attention to detail and accuracy. Scientific Recruitment Agencies also offer paid laboratory work.

First and foremost, I wanna apologies to... HAFIIZAH (did I get the spelling right?)! Haha... 4 making such a WORRY moment the other day first few seconds of test drive in your car. Gosh! come on man... its' a friend's car... and its new... and so.... of course you're extra cautious natural duh! But maybe too cautious?!

Casillas... Buffon... Great for any young goalkeeper watching them play.

But the saddest thing is... penalty shoot out is an area which any keeper would want to avoid if possible. As it is like a toss of a coin.

In the end, Casillas came on top, Buffon unlucky.

Hiyo! For the past 10 hours I've been trying to log on to my NTU admission account but I just can't?! What kind of construction are these IT people are making now eh? People are waiting for their "APPEAL" you know?!!!

And my uncle and aunt who is working in an engineering lab in NTU persuade me to try SCHOOL OF MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING. Engineering? Cannot make it la! Maybe I'll try next year... I don't know. Maybe. JUST maybe. HAHA!

If failed? Arts & Social Sciences? Wanna die ah? Easy to get but.. interest? Haha LARI say!

Well, the feeling of being literally "free" is amazing! It is just one of those times which you just have to move on to something better.
